About Porlock Weir

The fickle seas of the Middle Ages caused neighbouring Porlock's harbour to dry up giving Porlock Weir the opportunity to open up as a small port. These day's Porlock Weir is very much a tourist destination and a Mecca for those interested in wildlife. The marshland beyond the beach is full of interest and a popular spot for bird watching, whilst the shingle bar is thousands of years old and of great scientific value.

In close proximity to Exmoor plus the enjoyment of being on the beautiful South West Coastal Path there are many pleasant spots to explore both along the coast and the moors. Lovely walks take you past ancient churches to villages made up almost entirely of delightful thatched cottages. Vivid wild flowers provide a splash of colour on coast paths from which there are splendid sea views.

Porlock Weir has an abundance of attractive buildings looking out across the wide sweep of Porlock Bay towards rugged Hurlestone Point.

Places to visit include: Culbone Church, Gore Point, Dunster Castle, Selworthy Beacon and Minehead.
